Ayumi Hamasaki

Nació el 2 de octubre de 1978,en la prefectura de Fukuoka (Japón). Su infancia no fue nada fácil, su madre y su abuela la sacaron adelante solas, pues, su padre, las abandonó cuando Ayu sólo contaba con cuatro años de edad. Su carrera como modelo comenzaría poco tiempo después, con siete años. Así, a lo largo de su adolescencia, fue compaginando sus estudios con trabajos como modelo, pequeñas apariciones en teleseries. Estos trabajos la reportaban dinero, pero no disfrutaba viendo su imagen en carteles y revistas, aunque parezca irónico.

En la década de los noventa Ayu y su madre se trasladan a vivir a Tokio. Allí, dejará de lado su carrera como modelo y descubrirá las noches de Shibuya, los conciertos, los karaokes y a la persona que cambiaría su vida: Max Matsuura, productor de la compañía de discos Avex Trax.

Aunque en un principio Ayu no se ve como "cantante profesional", en 1997, Max Matsuura posibilita que viaje a Estados Unidos para perfeccionar su voz y prepararse como artista. Un año después vería la luz su primer single: "Poker Face". Ese mismo año, publicará su álbum debut: "A Song for XX", todo un éxito.

Toda la prensa se hizo eco de la joven que prometía convertirse en la "Emperadora" del Pop japonés.
